Celebrating Birthdays ~ It’s the Only Way to Go!

There are two days I wake up especially early on ~ Christmas and my birthday. They’re both really special days, and I don’t want to miss a minute of celebrating.

As soon as my birthday month begins, I can feel the anticipation building to my day. It’s such a fun feeling.

And it’s not even about getting gifts. No, not at all. It’s about me being me and how on that day, I don’t have to do anything I don’t want to.

Yeah, that’s the rule in our house ~ there’s no shoulds or have tos. And I get to pick what I want to eat.
You see, we’re all so unique. There’s only one me, one special me in this huge universe ~ and that’s worth celebrating! Dr. Seuss says it best:

Today you are You, that is truer than true.
There is no one alive who is Youer than You.

Big Things Don’t Come Easy

download-20Wow, as I began to type this, I’m asking myself: “Where has the time gone?” I’ve literally been no where, but “here”, only I haven’t had time to even take two breaths. Everyone hates hearing someone complain about how they have no time do whatever, or hearing babbling about how they’re losing interest in things such as this site. Let me just make one thing clear:

It’s always exciting planning a trip to somewhere new.  Somewhere you have never been before.  How do you know where to go and what to see?

There are so many great resources online to help that you will end up with more things to see than you have time for. First, you will want to check out the visitor’s bureau for the city or country that you are traveling to.  Most sites have a calendar of events in addition to an activities or sites section.  They will also list museums, historical sites and other tourist areas.

Poetry Wednesday

images-27Like mother, like daughter: Joan loves the Beatles. She often requests specific songs in the van – All Together Now, Good Day Sunshine and Penny Lane are her current faves. During the songs she always asks me who’s singing, and when I say John or Paul she’ll give an exasperated sigh, fold her arms across her chest and say, “Again?

What about George and Ringo?” I’ll skip forward to Octopus’s Garden or Old Brown Shoe and she’ll bop her head along to the beat and tell me I have to play those songs every day so that George and Ringo don’t feel left out.

So Much Good News!

This seems to be a week of good news in my life. First, there was my promotion. And yesterday my best friend’s girlfriend gave birth to a little boy.

k11232926I’m so excited for them. Even although I’m not a big baby person, I am really happy about little Jack’s birth. Yesterday after he told me I headed down to the retail park to pick up a present or two for him. Which, me being me, are color coordinated even though they’re from 3 different shops.

The biggest present that they’re getting from me (as a family) is that as soon as the wee guy’s out of hospital and settled at home I’m going to take as many photos of him that I can and publish them in a Blurb book. Pretty awesome, huh?

Yesterday morning I went to get my hair cut and colored in a salon that I’ve never visited before. So now my hair is chocolate brown, about shoulder length with hundreds of choppy layers cut through it. It’s by far the best  45 euro I’ve ever spent. I also got a treatment put onto it, which I got the other half of to bring away with me to use in a weeks time. It might just be me, but it looks like it should be in a sperm donor clinic, not sitting on my vanity unit.

What’s Your Dream Holiday?

I’m fed up reading about other blogger’s going on holiday or planning holidays, I’m so jealous! In the past few weeks I’ve read about Rhys’s American dream, Han going first class to Florida, Jenn & family hitting the beach, Starlet being attacked by evil seagulls in Wales, to name but a few. Lucky, lucky people – you really are.

The last time I was on holiday was in 2005 and that was a weekend in Dublin with the boyfriend. Before that I think the last time I was abroad for a proper 2 weeks in the sun holiday was America when my little brother was 4 – he’s now 15!

Anybody else been to Vegas? Is it really as magical as it’s made out to be?

There’s only one real place that I want to go in the whole entire world – Las Vegas, baby! I’m been fascinated by the glitz, glamour, lights and gambling of Las Vegas for a very long time which was made a hella lot more intense with by my obsession of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.
